In the penthouse suite of a local condo lies this striking & expansive kitchen. It is a culinary sanctuary with a coordinating pass-through servery & adjacent bar, extending the home's entertainment space. Finishes including bamboo millwork, metallic kicks, & a combination of Neolith & quartz countertops are repeated in various rooms for a homogenous style throughout. Designed by Susan Orfald.

With a spectacular view, we wanted to leave it unobstructed. So the kitchen was designed with dual islands, keeping all tall appliances & cabinetry along the sides. This layout seats up to 6 guests at the raised island to visit with hosts as they prepare a meal. Designed by Susan Orfald.

Separate islands for preparation & cooking allows a single chef the convenience of close proximity, as well as enough space for multiple chefs to work together harmoniously. Designed by Susan Orfald.

This dining area was designed with the kitchen in mind as the two spaces merge into one open room. Two inset panel style hutches frame the central artwork, while the transom above adjoins them. Lighting was carefully considered here as shown with the accent lighting displaying items in the cabinetry. Meanwhile focal lighting illuminates the painting & ambience comes from the Hubbardton Forge pendant above the table. Designed by Susan Orfald.

This stunning dining room table began by updating an existing table top that the client already owned. It was then refinished & given two new walnut leaves. Finally, the new base was created to make a striking statement. Designed by Susan Orfald.

Custom sliding doors were created to open up the space between dining & living room using darkly stained walnut with beveled glass. Designed by Susan Orfald.

An inset panel style kitchen with painted cabinetry provides a classy yet inviting atmosphere. Some of the features incorporated are ceiling height cabinetry with glass upper doors, "River White" granite countertops, & a marble backsplash. Designed by Susan Orfald.

Viewing the opposite side of the island, you will also notice the tall & shallow stemware cabinets. The island is complete with an eating bar, double apron front sink & cabinets accessible from both sides. Designed by Susan Orfald.

To the right of the central kitchen area is the fridge & pantry. Custom panels seamlessly disguise the large appliance with double doors & two freezer drawers. Beside it is the pantry door hiding several slide-out shelves within. Designed by Susan Orfald.

The 48” dinette table shown here is made of solid white oak & has a distressed finish with a driftwood stain. Contrasting top & base tones add subtle visual interest. Designed by Susan Orfald.

Hutton Bielmann Design has created a unique cabinetry style called “Opus,” with variations in the line. This kitchen was designed in the “Opus II” style in stained cherry. Mid-toned granite ties in the grey tones found in the appliances & fixtures, while offset by lighter, warm tones in the tile backsplash & flooring. Designed by Susan Orfald.

When entering the kitchen from the far left, you will notice the end cabinetry is more welcoming as it faces outward, rather than into the general kitchen centre. This portion helps perform administration tasks with its chalkboard & telephone cabinet. Designed by Susan Orfald.

This multipurpose island not only includes an entertainment sink with extra cabinet space, but it also acts as a secondary eating space with room for three. Designed by Susan Orfald.

The open kitchen space & bay of windows offered the perfect opportunity to design a one-of-a-kind “Bielmann Trestle Table” & L-shaped bench. Each end of the bench incorporates a masked drawer accessed by a finger pull. Designed by Susan Orfald.

With distinct Japanese influence, this contemporary kitchen has fluid lines that take an otherwise simple style to a higher level. Focus is drawn to the framed cooking station, housing two ovens & custom hood above. The curvaceous butcher block island top was chosen for both functional & aesthetic purposes. Reflecting the style of the cooking space, accent panels create contrast in this touchdown area, while providing a stylish place to display decorative items. Designed by Philip Bielmann.

Merging into the dining area, rich cherry wood offers a rich flavour to the dish cabinet niched into the surrounding walls for a distinctly custom look, topped off with a subtly flared transom. Designed by Philip Bielmann.

The shaker style cabinetry found in this kitchen is so versatile, looking particularly rich in this deep espresso tone. An angled corner step-in pantry provides a surprising amount of storage & gives balance to the full-height appliance units to its far left & right. Bronzed sandblasted glass panels prevent potential visual monotony, while stainless appliance accents are reflected in the hardware & eating bar stools. Designed by Susan Orfald.

The island/eating bar is home to the primary double sink with pull-down faucet, while the far wall includes an entertainment sink along with a secondary oven with microwave & warming capabilities. The island also has a two-level cutlery drawer, pull-out towel rack & even a "Vac Pan" central vacuum system built into the kick. Designed by Susan Orfald.

The hospitality cabinet helps flow from the kitchen & dining area to the family room, defining the space while keeping it open. Two tall columns frame the hospitality cabinet with inset field panels to compliment the paneled doors on the kitchen side & paneled backs on the living side. This gives the subtle detail needed to finish the look, particularly when moving furniture away, making this ideal for a landing spot during cocktail parties. Designed by Susan Orfald.

See how the three different areas unite with the distinction of the hospitality cabinet. To complete the look is another fascia & crown, like the dining cabinetry, connecting the two tall ends with lighting between. Designed by Susan Orfald.

Keeping with the espresso shaker cabinetry, the dining area features two tall bookshelf cabinets framing the central window. Soffit/fascia & crown with integrated lighting joins the two separate units, visually becoming one. Each beautifully displays open shelving above the bronzed sandblasted glass paneled doors. A corner pantry often makes the most of a given space by utilizing every inch to its advantage. Rather than becoming a visual hinderance, this pantry enhances the look with a single shoji paper & glass insert, balanced by the winged tall fridge unit. Designed by Philip Bielmann.

A feature in 2009's Kitchens On Parade tour, this kitchen is the epitome of a welcoming contemporary design, with functions far from minimalist. Flat panel bamboo veneer is not only stylish, but eco-conscious as well. The acid etched glass upper doors add flare while the stainless steel appliances add to the style rather than distract from it. By integrating the pantry right into the perimeter cabinetry, the entire corner space is optimized. Designed by Susan Orfald.

Any chef would be more than comfortable here with two ovens surrounding the cooktop, a built-in microwave, spacious fridge, one of each under-counter wine fridge & beverage fridge, two sinks, as well as a dishwasher. Each sink has its own garbage/recycling centre, the corner double sink includes a tip-down tray & towel rack below, while the island sink incorporates a garburator with sink rack hung beside. The features of this distinctive island seem endless as the doors enclose tray dividers, slide-out shelves & more. Further down it morphs into an irregularly shaped eating bar at the end with a defining glass top raised by stainless standoffs. The supporting ‘leg’ below that acts as a fully functioning extra cabinet. For an added special touch, a linear trough sink in the center lets the owners get creative with entertaining.
